Forest Hills is a component of downtown Columbia, SC, that is famous for having winding roads lined with impressive estates and mature trees. With a heavy concentration of medical professionals who reside in the neighborhood, Forest Hills is often referred to as "pills hills" by the locals. The community was established in the early 1900s and features beautiful parks and wooded areas which serve to separate the homes and give each one a feel of privacy.
Forest Hills is a historic district that was first officially inhabited by a man named Wade Hampton III. On the land that is now Westminster Dr., Hampton built his estate, Diamond Hill, which served as a beacon of southern grandeur for years until the home was burned during the Civil War. A monument is now all that remains of Hampton's place.
The neighborhood operates a community association, which charges a small, yearly fee for upkeep and social event planning. Each season brings something new and exciting to Forest Hills. In the Spring, there is the Easter Egg Hunt and each Christmas, every residence in Forest Hills lights up in honor of the holiday for spectators to enjoy. It is not often that homes change hands, here, as most who live here have had their houses passed down by relatives.
Whenever real estate is available in this coveted section of town, buyers have a wide selection of styles to choose from. Tudors and Colonials stand proud with bungalows and other smaller homes peppered throughout. Because of the location of Forest Hills, this is an ideal place to live.
